Winter Hair Care Routine

Happy Sunday, lovies!! This weekend has been amazing but I am completely wiped. I have been participating in my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega’s recruitment process to find some more REAL STRONG WOMEN to bring to our chapter here at Loyola University Chicago. This weekend has been filled with a lot of dressing up and with fancy clothes comes nice, polished hairstyles. Seeing all of my amazing sister’s lovely locks has inspired this week’s blogpost! I have started using a lot of new products to start off the new year. I love trying out new stuff and this is what I’m loving at the moment! I find these products keep my hair hydrated, healthy, frizz free and voluminous during the dry, windy winter months.

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo/Conditioner

I just recently started using this superstar duo after my most recent trip to get my hair done. My hair stylist has used this on me the past few times I have been and I always leave super obsessed with the smell and feel of my hair. It has a minty scent which leaves my wet hair really cold like I just had a mint except in my hair!!!! Such a cool feeling lol and I just really like how well it has helped maintain my color. It keeps it vibrant and healthy looking and I always look forward to washing my hair so I can use it hahahaha. P.S. It can be pretty pricey but I recommend checking it out during the Beauty Brands liter sale, it makes it WAY more bearable and worth the splurge.

it’s a 10 miracle leave-in product

This is a total cult product and how in the world have I not tried it before? Like this works CRAZY well. I have heard nothing but AHMAZING things and had to try it out and boy let me tell ya it’s worth every penny. I spray it throughout my hair after I get out of the shower and it gets every single tangle out with no problem.

This stuff ROCKS! I typically use this after the leave-in conditioner ^ and just put about a dime size amount in my hand. This is especially great if you are blowdrying your hair. It leaves you frizz free and super soft and smooth.

Paul Mitchell Smoothing Super Skinny Serum

LOVE this product. I combine this with the one above (usually half a pump of this combined with the dime sized amount of the other one). I find these two to be the perfect duo is keeping my hair silky smooth and shiny.

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Dry Shampoo

This bad boy is PERFECT for second or third day hair. Not only does it actually smell like a legit coconut on your head (which I personally love) but it works really well too. And what I like about this spray is that it doubles as a dry shampoo AND a texturizing spray to give your hair that extra little volume we all want.

Wet Brush

This has been my secret weapon for a few years now. I am obsessed with this and whoever came up with it is a pure genius. Anyone who knows anything about hair knows that your aren’t supposed to use a brush on it when it’s wet because it can break your hair. Wide tooth combs just don’t do it for me and I always wanted to use a brush but I knew it was bad for my hair. This is just what I needed, a brush I can use on wet hair. WELL if you haven’t seen this before you NEED to check it out. It seriously changed my life. Screen Shot 2018-01-27 at 9.03.07 PM.png

Have a great Sunday and a wonderful week ahead!

My Weekday Night Routine

Happy Sunday and happy fall!!!! I know I am not the only weirdo who loves seeing what other people do as a part of their daily routines, so today I am bringing you one of my own! MY WEEKDAY NIGHT ROUTINE WOOHOOO! During these cozy fall months, after a long day of classes I try to keep my nights free so I can wind down, spend some time with my friends, or just chill by myself. I have pretty early morning classes (which I actually love) and am typically done by at least 1PM so I don’t usually have a ton of homework to do in the evenings unless I am studying for a quiz or exam. I am an early to bed, early to rise type a gal and my nights are comfy, boring and relaxing, just how I like them.

First, I usually start out by making my dinner. Having a kitchen this year has been a TOTAL game changer. I love that I can make my own food when I want it and don’t have to worry about when or even worse, what, I am going to eat at the dining halls. Some of my favorite meals to make are pasta, crock pot meals (I know, am I 80? Yes. But they are so easy!!), and sweet potatoes in the oven! During this time I might watch some TV or eat with my roomie and chat about our days.

After dinner, I will get in some comfier clothes (if I’m not already) and light a bunch of candles. My friends and I might watch a TV show or I will watch something on my own. One of our current faves is Riverdale duh!! Highly recommend if you haven’t seen it! TOO much drama WOAH.

SO once all of the unwinding happens I actually start getting ready for bed. I start by taking off my makeup, washing my face, and doing my nighttime skincare. I use the Simple Cleansing Wipes for my face and to take off my eye makeup I use the Garnier SKINACTIVE Micellar Cleansing Water with a cotton round so I’m not tugging on my eyes with the wipes.

I have gone back to my roots lately for my skincare lately. I have tried A LOT of skincare products but what has proven itself time and time again is:

  1. CeraVe Oil Control Foaming Facial Cleanser
  2. OLEHENRIKSON Truth Serum
  3. CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

These combined with my prescription acne cremes is the perfect combination for my skin.

I then get in bed and make a rough to do list for the next day. This includes homework or anything I have planned the next day in order to be productive. After this, I schedule out my Facebook posts for my job working for Mama Said Tees (literally the BEST job I am so lucky). Check out our amazing and KIND tees and apparel!

I usually go to bed around 10:30 or 11 since I have to get up between 6 and 7 for classes every day. Night time is a time for me to relax while also preparing for the next day. Hope you enjoyed my Fall Night Routine!! (morning routine coming soon???)

UPDATED Makeup Routine

It has been about a YEAR since I did my last makeup routine! HOW?! So today I hought I would bring you my UPDATED current summer makeup routine. During the sweltering summer months I try to wear minimal makeup or none at all. I typically stick with lighter products that won’t instantly sweat off my skin the second I step outside. Some of these products are old, rediscovered favorites while others are new and I am loving them! Here is my go-to glowy summer makeup routine!

PRIMER: Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance

This is the first step to my routine. This primer helps your makeup stay put all day and leaves you “glowing from within.”

FACE PRODUCT: IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream

I’m really not sure how I didn’t start using this before I did. I used to shy away from liquid products in fear of them looking cakey, but this one is anything but that! While canceling out all of the discoloration it creates the most flawless and natural finish. P.S. I have discovered applying this with your hands makes it look even more natural

(I clearly am obsessed with this product solely based on the state of its packaging)

SETTING POWDER: Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

This is SUCH a good setting powder. I was nervous about the loose powder because let’s just be honest, that’s just a mess waiting to happen. But it works wonders. I use a wet real techniques beauty sponge (the orange one with the flat edge) to apply this all over my face and under my eyes.

CORRECTOR: Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light to Medium Bisque

This has been one of my LONG TIME faves. This is the perfect under eye concealer to cancel out under eye bags. It completely cancels out all of the darkness and makes you look more awake instantly.

CONCEALER: Benefit Boi~ing Airbrush Concealer in Light Medium

I got this for free with my latest Sephora purchase and I am obsessed. This super CREAMY concealer is perfect for spot treatment and any other problem areas.

BRONZER: Benefit Hoola Bronzer

This bronzer is a current favorite but also can be tricky and takes a good amount of blending. I love the color and natural warmth it gives my complexion. However, it is super pigmented and you need to use a light hand as well as blend blend blend!!!

BLUSH: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush

This blush is so so so natural. It is the perfect nudey pink to top off any look.

HIGHLIGHT: cargo_HD Picture Perfect Highlighter in Bronze

I have been trying out this highlighter recently after receiving it in my Summer 2017 FabFitFun box and boy oh boy do I love it! It is super duper pigmented and gives you the perfect bronzy glow.

MASCARA: Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara

This mascara is a STAPLE in my routine and has never failed me. It makes my lashes look longer and gives them more volume at the same time. I don’t know if I will ever switch.

BROWS: Shade “Naked” from the Urban Decay Naked Palette

After coloring my hair this summer and going a bit lighter I have switched to “Naked” in my trusty Urban Decay Naked Palette to fill in my brows.

Weekly Pamper Routine

Taking care of yourself and your body is so so so important. As I’m getting ready to leave for college, I decided to take a break from the hustle and bustle that is packing my whole life into boxes, and give myself a pamper night. My pamper routine is one of my absolute favorite ways to treat my body after a long day. Here are some of my essentials for a relaxing evening in:

A Rich Body Butter

I received this body butter in one of my FabFitFun subscription boxes and love it so much I am planning on repurchasing because I’m almost out! It has the nourishing benefits of candlenut oil leaving your skin super soft and smelling amazing.

Candlenut Body Creme by Juara | $38

All the Candles

Candles are never really a bad idea, especially during a pamper night. It offers a super yummy scent of your choosing while completely changing the ambience of the room, immediately relaxing you.

Bath & Body Works Medium Candle in Vanilla Chai | $12.50

Lush Bath Bomb

Of course you can have a regular bath full of bubbles, but why not add a little color, fizz,  and maybe some sparkles to make it more fun? Lush bath bombs are not just super colorful and fun but can have fantastic benefits for your skin.

Lush Bath Bomb in “The Experimenter” | $8.95

A Good Exfoliant

Getting rid of all the dead skin cells on your body is one of the most surprisingly satisfying things you can do for yourself. Not only does it keep your skin smooth but also increases blood flow and circulation in your muscles. This exfoliator was also given to me in my most recent FabFitFun summer box and is totally amazing. It has a citrus scent and small exfoliating beads so it isn’t too harsh on sensitive skin.

Stemulation Microderm Face & Body Scrub | $34

A Detoxifying Face Mask

As you can see I love this mask because I’m over half way done with it. This is a charcoal mask that pulls all of the gunk and junk out of your pores that you don’t want. I apply a generous amount on my whole face, avoiding my eyes, and then wash off with a warm wash cloth when it’s dry about 15-20 minutes later.

Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask | $26

My Skin Care Routine

Throughout my teen years I have found out the hard way that taking care of your skin is crucial. It is more beneficial to spend time and money on bettering your skin rather than just buying makeup to cover it up. Having good skin not only lets that makeup go on smoother but is also a major confidence booster. I’ve always been insecure about my skin. I have breakouts here and there and have hyper pigmentation in certain areas I just can’t seem to get rid of no matter what I try. My recent skin care routine has done wonders for me in getting rid of those pesky spots while also evening out my complexion and the texture of my face. I have noticed a huge difference in my skin since I began using these products and highly recommend trying them out. I was definitely one of those people who felt like I had tried everything and just nothing seemed to help. I am very pleased with these products and have gained a lot more confidence in my skin. I use all of these products twice a day—when I wake up, and before I go to bed to ensure I get the best results. Not only does it work but it’s incredibly simple and easy to use.

WHAT I USE: Rodan + Fields Unblemish Regimen for Acne Prone Skin

Step One: Acne Treatment Sulfur Wash

This is a creamy purple wash that leaves my skin feeling awake and smooth. I use it every morning and night sometimes paired with my Clarisonic Mia for an extra deep clean.

Step Two: Clarifying Toner

After washing my face I apply this to my whole face with a cotton round avoiding my eye area. This not only tones my skin but removes any dirt or oil that the wash might have missed.

Step Three: Dual Intensive Acne Treatment

After waiting for the toner to dry I apply this third step. This product has two serums that contain benzoyl peroxide for the treatment and prevention of breakouts. It’s light and feels great on your skin leaving it feeling moisturized and healthy.

Step Four: Oil Control Lotion

This last step is great because it not only keeps your face hydrated without leaving a gross oily residue, but it also has an SPF of 20. This is amazing for when you may not have time to apply that extra layer of sunscreen to your face during those sweltering summer months. It’s one less step and so worth the outcome.

**If you are interested in learning more about these products my lovely rep Lizzy would be happy to help you get started and talk about what is best for you!

My Everyday Makeup Routine

I guess you could say I like to go for the “no makeup” makeup look. I keep it simple and don’t go overboard with crazy colors. I like my neutrals and think it makes me look the most polished. I have a few drug store items but most of my collection consists of Bobbi Brown products along with some other higher end brands. The last two years for my prom makeup I have gone to the Bobbi Brown counter at my local Nordstrom and have never looked back. These products have seriously changed the game for me. I am going to walk you through step by step what I do on a daily basis.

Step One: Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light to Medium Bisque

This product I put on my under eyes as well as the inner corner. It takes away the darkness and most of the hyper pigmentation I have. Makes me look more awake in seconds!

Step Two: Bobbi Brown Concealer & Powder Duo in Warm Beige and Pale Yellow

This next step adds a little more natural color to my face with the concealer that matches my complexion perfectly. I pat this right on top of where I put the pink correcting cream. I then follow up with the yellow powder to set it and make sure it stays put all day!

Step Three: Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick in Natural 4

Stick foundation is one of my all time favorite products. I used to swear by liquid partnered with the beloved beauty blender thinking it gave me an “airbrushed look.” They don’t even compare. This is way easier and I can have my whole face done in two minutes, maybe less. I would say it provides a medium coverage but is very build able. This product paired with the Bobbi Brown full coverage face brush leaves it flawless and gives a completely weightless feel.

Step Four: Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronzing Powder in Aruba

I use this bronzer to add a little extra warmth to my face. I could say that I contoured with it, but honestly that’s not easy and a lot of work. I do the classic 3 motion along my temples, cheekbones, and along my jaw line. It has some shimmer (but not glitter) leaving your face extra luminous.

Step Five: Maybelline Fit Me Blush in Medium Pink

I don’t typically spend a lot on blush because I don’t use a lot of it. I use just enough to give my face a natural flush and that’s about it. I’m not trying to look like I’m wearing it. This is a soft pink with some shimmer giving me a healthy glow.

Step Six: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal

I’ve been eyeing this one for a long time now and I finally caved in and bought it. It is absolutely gorgeous and the perfect highlight in my opinion. You can definitely go over board so a light hand is necessary, but the results are ridiculously worth it.

Step Seven: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion & Naked 2 Palette

I don’t always wear eyeshadow, but when I do this is my go to eye look. I have been using the Urban Decay primer for years now and it keeps my shadows on all day. I have all 3 Naked Palettes and have found the second palette to be my favorite and most wearable, at least for me. I like a bright shimmery eye so I go with “Bootycall”, a light champagne color, on my inner lid and then  “Chopper”, a shimmery rose gold, on the outside half. I think this makes me look awake and brings out my green eyes really well.

Step Eight: Brows

I have pretty thick brows to begin with so there isn’t a lot needed to keep them in order. All I use is a dark brown powder from my original Naked palette in “Buck”. This is a nice rich matte brown that gets the job done. I simply fill them in and run over them with some clear eyebrow gel to insure they stay in place.

Step Nine: Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara in Black

This is the final step and my favorite one. I have decently long lashes to begin with but I love to enhance them in every way I can. This mascara is one of the best I have tried between drugstore and higher end. It darkens my lashes, doesn’t clump, separates them, and makes them appear longer and thicker. What more could I ask for?

My routine is simple and easy, typically only taking about 8 minutes in the morning. It blends well and doesn’t look cakey. I highly recommend these products to anyone looking for something new. Like I said, they have changed the makeup game for me.
