Winter Hair Care Routine

Happy Sunday, lovies!! This weekend has been amazing but I am completely wiped. I have been participating in my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega’s recruitment process to find some more REAL STRONG WOMEN to bring to our chapter here at Loyola University Chicago. This weekend has been filled with a lot of dressing up and with fancy clothes comes nice, polished hairstyles. Seeing all of my amazing sister’s lovely locks has inspired this week’s blogpost! I have started using a lot of new products to start off the new year. I love trying out new stuff and this is what I’m loving at the moment! I find these products keep my hair hydrated, healthy, frizz free and voluminous during the dry, windy winter months.

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo/Conditioner

I just recently started using this superstar duo after my most recent trip to get my hair done. My hair stylist has used this on me the past few times I have been and I always leave super obsessed with the smell and feel of my hair. It has a minty scent which leaves my wet hair really cold like I just had a mint except in my hair!!!! Such a cool feeling lol and I just really like how well it has helped maintain my color. It keeps it vibrant and healthy looking and I always look forward to washing my hair so I can use it hahahaha. P.S. It can be pretty pricey but I recommend checking it out during the Beauty Brands liter sale, it makes it WAY more bearable and worth the splurge.

it’s a 10 miracle leave-in product

This is a total cult product and how in the world have I not tried it before? Like this works CRAZY well. I have heard nothing but AHMAZING things and had to try it out and boy let me tell ya it’s worth every penny. I spray it throughout my hair after I get out of the shower and it gets every single tangle out with no problem.

This stuff ROCKS! I typically use this after the leave-in conditioner ^ and just put about a dime size amount in my hand. This is especially great if you are blowdrying your hair. It leaves you frizz free and super soft and smooth.

Paul Mitchell Smoothing Super Skinny Serum

LOVE this product. I combine this with the one above (usually half a pump of this combined with the dime sized amount of the other one). I find these two to be the perfect duo is keeping my hair silky smooth and shiny.

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Dry Shampoo

This bad boy is PERFECT for second or third day hair. Not only does it actually smell like a legit coconut on your head (which I personally love) but it works really well too. And what I like about this spray is that it doubles as a dry shampoo AND a texturizing spray to give your hair that extra little volume we all want.

Wet Brush

This has been my secret weapon for a few years now. I am obsessed with this and whoever came up with it is a pure genius. Anyone who knows anything about hair knows that your aren’t supposed to use a brush on it when it’s wet because it can break your hair. Wide tooth combs just don’t do it for me and I always wanted to use a brush but I knew it was bad for my hair. This is just what I needed, a brush I can use on wet hair. WELL if you haven’t seen this before you NEED to check it out. It seriously changed my life. Screen Shot 2018-01-27 at 9.03.07 PM.png

Have a great Sunday and a wonderful week ahead!

How to Get Out of a Rut

So we are almost a month in to the new year and I don’t know about anyone else but I am already losing motivation? Well, that happened quickly. Ruts happen to me all the time. A funk, rut, slump, whatever you want to call it, they stink and make you super unproductive. Nobody wants that. So I am going to tell you what I do when I start to get in a rut and need to get out of it because life goes on and it’s definitely not waiting for you to figure it out.

Try figuring out the problem

This is tricky because they often come on pretty quickly. You can be feeling inspired one day and the next day BAM it’s just gone. You fall back into your same routines and you’re stuck. So start thinking about what could be making you feel this way. Something I have been working on is being AWARE of why I am feeling a certain way. Is there something that you’re doing that really just isn’t doing it for you anymore? Is there something you just really hate doing? Maybe that’s your problem. If you can’t figure it out right away don’t worry about it. Take your time, think about it, talk to a friend, or even write about it. I know that helps me 😉 lolololol

Remove the problem

Once you figure it out, you need to remove that reason why you’re feeling this way from your life. This is one of the hardest steps for me. Because doing this means that you’re putting your own happiness and well being BEFORE that relationship and that person, the certain thing thats bringing you down, or the comfort of your current situation. It means you have to get out of your comfort zone here and actually CHANGE the situation you’re in, and your way of looking at certain things, in order to change how you’re feeling. You can’t fully move on without completing this step. I am a strong believer in the idea of changing the way you see things in order for these things to change (refer to the top of this page and my mantra “if you aren’t obsessed with your life, change it.”), so if you can’t find a solid reason why you’re in a rut, maybe you can consider changing your outlook on life and having a more positive one.

Change it up

This can mean many things. What I immediately think of is your daily routine. I thrive on a schedule. BUT sometimes that schedule can be my downfall. I get into a rhythm and it becomes repetitive and just plain BORING. I don’t want my life to be boring and just feel like I am going through the motions. So switch it up, reorganize your room, start a new hobby, just something that will change your outlook on the outside so you can start changing your outlook on the inside. There is some switch that flips when you reorganize your furniture. Something in you that just says, “Well something is different here, so I must act differently.” It really does work and helps you change up your routine and mindset.

Rewrite your goals

Even if you aren’t physically writing your goals down with pen and paper, think about them and reflect. It is often needed to just go back and think why you even made that goal in the first place. Obviously you must have made it with the intent of accomplishing it. So establish what your goals were, maybe even add new goals, and start from there. A fresh list. A fresh start.

Take action

This part is always a hard one for me as well. You can think about all of this as much as you want but nothing is going to change unless you take action and work to improve your life. Ruts come often and definitely more than I would like. So take today or tomorrow and start thinking where you are and where you want to be. And most importantly, what the steps are you need to get there.
