Weekly Gratitude: My Amazing Friends

Happy Sunday!!! Today I figured it was about time I wrote another weekly gratitude. There are so many things I am grateful for and have learned to appreciate even more since coming back to school (already a month ago!! What!!). For example, MY AMAZING FRIENDS! I was so excited to go to college last year but even more nervous if I would find a good solid group of friends. Not going to lie, my friends at home set the bar pretty high so I was hesitant to see what happened. Now, all living in the same building we see a lot of each other, I mean a lot. We do pretty much everything together which can be exhausting but also the best thing ever. I didn’t even realize how much I would miss them when I left for summer break earlier this year. I almost cried I was so sad to say goodbye to their little faces. They had become my family at my home away from home and what was I going to do without them? Even more crazily, summer FLEW by just like I knew it would and soon enough we were right back at Loyola. This first month back it feels like I have spent more time with them than I did all last year. We have laughed, we have cried and we have the best time together. Someone is always willing to help you pick out an outfit or borrow a pair of shoes. The support is incomparable. Yesterday was my incredible roomie, Julia’s birthday. We had a ton of festivities planned as well as some secret surprises she didn’t know about. It was so much fun seeing everyone come together to make this birthday special for her. Everyone has such a kind heart and wants the best for everyone, especially our sweet Julia. So basically what I’m trying to say is I’m just so happy and lucky to have found such an amazing friend group that has stuck with me for two whole years now and hopefully a long long time from now. Find yourself a gang like these fools pictured below. Really don’t know what I’d do without them.

How to Be A Girlboss 101: Personal Branding

Happy Sunday, friends! First off, don’t worry this isn’t as boring and intimidating as it sounds. I have touched on this topic before and think it is crucial in your personal and professional life. This post came to me after I was in a “workshop” for my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, and we were discussing the importance of branding as a chapter as well as an individual. As a marketing major, this is clearly a topic of interest for me. I have always found how others perceive me a real driving factor in how I live my life. Yes in how I look on the outside and other superficial reasons, but even more so how I come across to someone through in my character, personality, work ethic, and intention.

I am really proud of myself and how much I have grown just in the past year. I feel like I really have found my groove and know what I love and am passionate about. But it’s all about growth and whether or not you continue to grow. This is where personal branding comes into play. Whether it is in person, on social media, or elsewhere you want to be the most genuine and authentic version of yourself as possible. This means doing what you love with who you love and ultimately living your best life. I believe setting standards for yourself is the first step. Where is the bar going to be set? Evaluate who you are now…do you like who you are now? Are there things you want to change and don’t like? Now that you’ve done that, think about where you WANT to be. Think about it like this: Who is someone you idolize? Why do you idolize them? Probably because of how they act towards other people and portray themselves. So what can you do to make someone think that about you? Are you kind and loving and accepting? Are you willing to hear what others have to say? Are you smiling? It all has an impact on how people see you and whether or not they remember you. Be memorable. Stand out. Maybe be a little weird. Find your quirks and what makes you you! And BE PROUD! The one thing I am continuously finding out in this path of self discovery is it all comes down to confidence. If you are confident in yourself, other people will be confident in you.

It really is a fun process when you do begin to gain that confidence, find your passions, and become who you WANT to be. Because regardless of what you think, people are looking. Future employers, parents, friends, family, and even strangers. It all matters and it all has an impact. YOU make an impact on others, so make it a good one.

Foodie Finds: Mahalo

What’s up everyone! Happy Sunday!! Now that I am back in Chicago I CAN NOT wait to keep discovering new restaurants and write about all of them for you! I know I did a foodie finds two weeks ago but I couldn’t help myself. Last week I went to an AMAZING and can I just say THE cutest restaurant in Wicker Park for brunch. I went for brunch with my CHAARG girls (and had the best time with them as always). Mahalo is a Hawaiian themed restaurant with the coolest atmosphere, yummy drinks, and GREAT food. We went for brunch and as usual I got breakfast because breakfast food is my favorite and I could eat breakfast for every meal. But quite a few of my friends did get lunch and got some delish looking poke bowls!! I got a YUM french toast dish with a bunch of traditional Hawaiian fruits on top and a refreshing virgin piΓ±a colada to drink. It did take quite a long time to get there on the train from my campus but if you are up for the trek or taking a car I highly recommend. It was definitely worth it! I plan on heading back to Wicker Park and spending a whole day there so I can see what other gems I can find. GO check it out! Here are some pictures from my brunch!

Back in Chicago & Better Than Ever

Hey everyone! I am officially one week into my sophomore year of college and have had a great but super busy start to my year. I moved into my apartment with my AMAZING roomie Julia last Saturday and it already feels like we have been here forever. Our place is so homey and it’s definitely nice having more than one room and not having to go into the hallway just to go to the bathroom. I have already gotten together with my Alpha Chi Omega sisters for one chapter and my CHAARG girlies for a fun Monday night at Barry’s bootcamp! It’s great to be back and be able to do these things again. Classes started just two short days after and I was honestly a little nervous. New classes, harder classes, new professors, that’s some scary stuff. But I am pleased to tell you I am actually enjoying (most) of my classes! I am ESPECIALLY liking my business classes which is incredibly reassuring for me because that means I may have actually picked the right major! What a relief! I get to go downtown at least three days a week which is always so fun to be a part of the downtown early morning hustle and bustle. Aside from classes, Julia and I have already cooked many meals in our crock pot (my new favorite kitchen appliance) as well as many other yummy meals and treats in our kitchen! Let me just tell you…having a kitchen!! GAME CHANGER. I love it so much. Lucky for me all of my closest friends from last year all got in the same dorm as me this year so I am still hanging out with them and are up to our usual shenanigans. My incredible Aunt Lisa, Uncle Curtis, and three cousins came to see me yesterday and that was such a nice day! They just moved to the suburbs and am so excited to have them near by!! I took them on a tour of my campus and we went for a delicious lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. It was so nice to catch up and see them after a few months! Last night a few of my friends and I went downtown for some Saturday night fun taking in the last few warmer days (fall is already almost here? and how is it already September?) I can tell it’s going to be a really good year and I am so excited to see what is in store in these next few months. I’m in an amazing city, with great people, what more could I ask for? I’m pretty gosh darn lucky. Get ready for all of the awesome posts coming your way this year! Can’t wait to show you guys what I’m up to! I’M READYYYY!

Have an incredible Sunday, friends!
