My 5 Love Languages

We all give and receive love in a way that is unique to us. I’m sure many of you have heard of them or even taken this online quiz before. These are called love languages and there are five of them. They include quality time, physical touch, words of affirmation, acts of service, and receiving gifts. None of them are better or worse than the other. I just took the quiz again for the first time in a few years and my answers have slightly changed. Many people associate this quiz with marriage but it definitely doesn’t have to be. I think it’s a really cool way to learn about yourself and how you appreciate love in different degrees. So I am going to share with you my love languages and the way I express and take in love. These are how my “rankings” turned out:

Quality Time (10)

Physical Touch (9)

Words of Affirmation (5)

Acts of Service (4)

Receiving Gifts (2)

Quality Time

This isn’t surprising to me that this is my number one love language. I would spend every day with the people I love if I could. Just simply be in their presence, talking, and enjoying each other’s company is my ideal way of spending time. Humans crave that deep connection and attention from those they admire.

Physical Touch

Ever since I was a little girl I remember my whole family constantly hugging and cuddling so this is isn’t much of a shock either. Hugs are my favorite and just make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It’s always such a great feeling to give someone a much needed long hug. My parents were always super affectionate towards me to make sure I physically knew I was loved (not that I ever questioned it for a second). I have them to thank for this second love language.

Words of Affirmation

I think everyone likes to hear that they are loved, appreciated, or just being thought of. Whether they are coming from yourself, a parent, sibling, grandparent, friend, or anyone else you love they only make you feel better about yourself and like you maybe actually did do something right for once.

Acts of Service

This could be as simple as my roommate refilling the Brita filter in the mini fridge in our dorm. Little tasks just being done out of kindness to another person are usually the best ones. Just because this is ranked second to last definitely doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate these small things. It’s a great feeling knowing that someone did something for you just to make you happy or your day a little bit easier.

Receiving Gifts

So those that know me really well can tell you I LOVE giving gifts, but when it comes to receiving gifts it seems to fall to the bottom of my list. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is so much fun to open a gift from someone who picked it out especially for you. But if I could choose to actually spend more time with that person, I would choose it over a gift any day.

Make sure this month you are really focusing on giving love, in whatever way you see fit. Show appreciation, give compliments, and just simply be present when you are with those you care about. Happy almost Valentine’s Day!
